A Mother’s Strength

As time passed, our mother decided to marry again. In the beginning, her new husband promised to take care of both our mother and us with love and kindness. We believed his words and hoped for a happy family. But soon, everything changed — his promises faded, and his true nature appeared.

At that time, I was in class two and my younger brother was in class one. Life was not easy for our mother, yet she worked tirelessly to give us everything we needed. Despite her struggles, she always wore a smile and tried to keep us happy.

However, after her remarriage, our lives turned from peaceful to painful. Our stepfather treated us harshly, and we suffered in silence. The situation became so difficult that my mother had to send my brother to the monastery, while I continued my studies at school.

Those days were the hardest of our lives. We faced many challenges that a child should never have to experience. He mistreated us and refused to support our education. Whenever we asked for help, he would say that we were not studying for him. He would not even give us a single penny to buy school materials.

Through all this, our mother remained strong. Her courage and love gave us the strength to move forward, no matter how dark the days seemed.

As time went by, we slowly learned to live with the pain and challenges that life had given us. Our mother never gave up, no matter how difficult the days were. She became both a mother and a father to us — working hard, sacrificing her own comfort, and doing everything she could to see us happy.

Watching her struggle taught me the true meaning of strength. She showed me that love and patience can overcome even the darkest times. Her quiet tears at night and her warm smile each morning reminded me that a mother’s heart is stronger than anything in the world.

Though we had little, we learned to be grateful for what we had. Each day at school, I studied with determination, hoping that one day I could give my mother the peaceful life she deserved. My brother, too, worked hard in the monastery, learning discipline and faith. Together, we promised ourselves that we would never let our mother’s sacrifices go in vain.

Now, when I look back, I realize that those painful years shaped who I am today. They taught me courage, patience, and compassion. Life was not fair to us, but it gave us something even more valuable — the strength to rise, the wisdom to forgive, and the hope to dream again.

My Life

Long ago, I lived happily with my parents.

We were four in the family—my father, my mother, my brother, and me. Those days were full of joy. We spent time together, laughed together, and felt safe in each other’s company.

But as time went by, our happiness slowly faded. Misfortune struck when my father became seriously ill. I was very young then, too small to understand what was really happening. My brother and I could only watch as our father’s health grew worse day by day.

One day, the saddest moment of our lives arrived. My father passed away, leaving us with only our mother. Suddenly, the world felt so big and heavy. My brother and I felt helpless—we were just children, and there was little we could do to ease the pain or carry the responsibilities.

Yet, through all the struggles, our mother stood strong. She became our strength and our guide. Even though life was hard, we learned to move forward, holding on to her love and courage.

Chapter 2

CHAPTER: TWO

            Behind her Smile

Hello baby. Said the stepfather. I too said, "Yes apa anything to say?"He just nodded his head and said nothing. He was a young guy with kind hearted.
He did everything for us. He was younger than my mom but he loves and cares my mom like my father.
"Though my father expired but this young guy is more than my father", Sonam thought.
Again after her mother's remarriage, they had a happy life.
She went to school as usual and did her work like before. She studied day and night to fulfill her desire.
"Mom, l am so sorry to tell you about the stepfather, he was not what l expected" Sonam said.
"Yes, he is same like your father and he promised me to take care of you as his own daughter" Mom replied.
Sonam still had a happy life. She was a girl of duty not a girl of beauty.
It was almost three years and she did class x exam.
Sonam had grown up and became a beautiful girl. She always stayed home
and do household chores.
Where as her mom and stepfather went to work. They two work together as a caretaker and a night guard.
All of a sudden there was some behavior changes, Aku what's wrong with you?,Sonam said.
"Nothing," Aku nodded.
Slowly the love and happiness vanished.
Aku started drinking alcohol. Everytime he quarrelled with mom without any reason.
I could see my mom suffering alot. I couldn't bear her pain, so l asked, what happened mom?
She looked straight to my eyes and tear rolled down her cheek.
I too cried and told mom to be brave.
"I could see my mom with great pain but she never shared with me", Sonam whispered.
Sonam was a strong girl, she could handle any challenges. She was worried about her mom.
One night, l couldn't see my mom, l asked Aku, "Where is my mom?"
Aku happily said,"Today she went to village". Sonam replied, " will she come today?. "No, she will stay there for a week" Aku said.
She had a mixed thought, "what shall l do?. Shall l sleep here or go to neighbour's house? Or shall l bolt the door and sleep?
Suddenly he whispered, "You should not go to neighbour's house. You sleep here only.trust me"
Aku said, " l am also going for night duty, please closed the door and sleep".
I took a deep breath and chanted "OM MANI PADMA HONG".
"I couldn't sleep, l wondered why mom went to village without informing me" These thoughts lingered in my mind.
It was 12 midnight, l still couldnt sleep.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door.
I was shivering and couldn't go to open the door.
The door was still knocking and l was in deliema, weather to open or not.
He knocked for nearly an hour and started shouting," Sonam open the door".
I made myself bold, took a deep breath and went to open the door.
